Mental Health

The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course curriculum is based on the Mental Health Guidelines and is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Ghana. 

Course Content

Course participant learn about the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

Developing mental health problems covered:

Depression
Anxiety problems
Psychosis
Substance use problems

Mental health crisis situations covered are:

Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
Non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called deliberate self-harm)
Panic attacks
Traumatic events
Severe effects of drug or alcohol use
Severe psychotic states
Aggressive behaviors

All MHFA Courses teach how to give the mental health first aid using the MHFA Action Plan ALGEE

Our Facilitator

Our facilitator for this course is fully accredited with Mental Aid Ghana.

Who Can Attend?

Any interested adult can attend. Please note this course is not a therapy or support group, schools, companies and individuals.

Course Format

This is a 12-hour course, which can be delivered as either: A 2-day training package (6 hour per day, either consecutive days or 2 separate days), OR a 4- separate training modules of 3 hours each. 

We recommend 2 consecutive days for best outcomes, but flexibility of this model can be provided. Course participants receive a copy of the Standard MHFA Manual, information guides and handout, and a Certificate of Completion. An additional Certificate of Accreditation can be gained, and information on how to achieve this will be provided in the course.

Claim CPD Point

Most professionals can claim attendance at a MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) course for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with their industry body.
